Authentic Sugar Putharekulu
Sugar Putharekulu is the lightest expression of Atreyapuram's famous paper sweet — wafer-thin rice sheets brushed with pure cow ghee and dusted with finely powdered sugar, folded into delicate translucent rectangles. Each pack of 10 is hand-rolled from scratch, and the sweet is so airy that it seems to dissolve on contact, leaving only ghee fragrance and gentle sweetness behind.
The Paper Sweet Of Atreyapuram
Putharekulu holds a Geographical Indication tag for Atreyapuram in East Godavari, where the climate allows rice batter to be lifted off a hot inverted pan as edible paper. The sugar version is the version most non-Andhra guests fall in love with first — pale, polite, and incredibly delicate. Our family has been making it in the Godavari tradition for four generations.
Just Sugar, Ghee, And Rice
We layer each rice sheet with pure cow ghee and finely powdered sugar — that is all. No maida, no artificial colour, no preservatives. The simplicity is the point: with so few ingredients, the quality of each one matters more, which is why we use only pure cow ghee and freshly milled sugar.

Each box contains 10 hand-rolled pieces — the standard putharekulu festival pack. Sugar putharekulu is a particular favourite for Diwali, weddings, Ugadi, and Sankranti gifting, as well as for sending to family abroad who know of the sweet but cannot find a proper version locally.
