Authentic Bellam Putharekulu
Bellam Putharekulu is the original, unadorned version of Atreyapuram's famous paper sweet — wafer-thin rice sheets brushed with pure cow ghee and layered with powdered Andhra jaggery, then folded into delicate, papery rectangles. Each pack of 10 is a small marvel of Godavari craftsmanship: sweet, light, and somehow vanishing on the tongue almost before you've registered the flavour.
The GI-Tag Sweet Of Atreyapuram
Putharekulu carries a Geographical Indication tag tied specifically to Atreyapuram in East Godavari, where the climate and the technique combine to produce sheets impossibly thin. The batter is rolled by hand onto the bottom of a hot inverted pan and lifted off as paper. It is one of India's most technically demanding sweets, and our family has been making it in the Godavari tradition for four generations.
Jaggery Done The Old Way
We layer each sheet with pure cow ghee and finely powdered Andhra jaggery — and nothing else. No maida, no artificial colour, no preservatives. The jaggery is sourced from Andhra farms for its deep, almost molasses-like character, which is what gives bellam putharekulu their unmistakable warm caramel depth.
