Munagaku Karam
Drumstick-leaf podi — nutritious, nutty and quietly fiery. Sun-cured the old-fashioned way, slow-tempered in cold-pressed sesame oil, and bottled by hand in our village kitchen. Best enjoyed with hot rice and a generous spoon of ghee.
Authentic Munagaku Karam
Munagaku Karam is the quietly nourishing cousin in our karappodulu family. Drumstick leaves — known to be nutrient-rich — are sun-dried, gently roasted, and stone-pounded with toor dal, dry red chillies and a few well-chosen aromatics. The result is a podi that is nutty, gently fiery and unmistakably wholesome — the kind of Munagaku Karam Telugu grandmothers have been making for generations.
Why drumstick leaf belongs in your kitchen
Munaga aaku has been a Telugu staple for as long as anyone can remember — added to dals, stir-fries and podis. We dry the leaves slowly in the shade to keep their green colour and earthy flavour intact, then roast them just enough to deepen their character. The leaves are nutrient-rich by nature, which makes our Munagaku Karam a thoughtful daily addition.
How to enjoy it
A spoonful of Munagaku Karam over hot rice with ghee is the simplest, most satisfying way in. It also pairs well with ragi sankati, jowar roti and even plain curd rice. Stirred into hot uppma or sprinkled over a soft-boiled egg, it brings an Andhra-style green warmth to almost any plate.
