Pappu Chegodilu
Lentil-rich chegodilu with extra bite. Sun-cured the old-fashioned way, slow-tempered in cold-pressed sesame oil, and bottled by hand in our village kitchen. Best enjoyed with hot rice and a generous spoon of ghee.
Authentic Pappu Chegodilu
Pappu Chegodilu turns up the volume on the classic Andhra ring. We soak chana dal until just tender, then coarsely crush it into a rice-flour dough seasoned with sesame, ajwain and red chilli. Each Pappu Chegodilu is hand-shaped into a ring and fried in cold-pressed sesame oil. The lentil pieces give it extra bite — a deeper, more savoury crunch that holds up beautifully against a strong cup of filter coffee.
Lentils for the extra bite
The defining move in our Pappu Chegodilu is the chana dal. Soaked just enough to soften, it is crushed coarse so you see — and feel — flecks of lentil through every ring. This gives the snack a heartier, more savoury character than regular chegodilu, with a crunch that lasts longer in the mouth. The dough still rests on rice flour, so the snap stays clean.
Serving suggestions
Pappu Chegodilu is the snack you reach for when chai needs serious company. It also plays beautifully on a festive platter alongside janthikalu and bundi mixture, and makes a thoughtful addition to Diwali and Sankranti hampers. Pack it into journey tins or office drawers — it stays crisp for many tea breaks if kept airtight.
